“A Big Enough Box: On Ecology, Emergence and Theologies of God”
A Chicago Theological Seminary class offered at The Union Church of Hinsdale for members of the church and community, through the Center for Christian Leadership.
7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 10-Nov. 14, 2007 in the Grace Room.
Course description:
This course will explore the theological lessons to be learned from nature---especially the idea that complex systems create new capacities that arise from the interaction of the parts. This implies a vast latent capacity among living things to grow, and change, and to do more than we have done. It also provides an avenue for God’s activity that modern, scientifically-oriented people can believe in. Together we will explore the classical theologies of God and ideas of nature, how we understand nature differently today, and the implications that this new scientific knowledge has for the way we think about God, and the way we practice as believers.
Professor:
Rev. Clare Butterfield is the Director of Faith in Place, an interfaith environmental ministry in Chicago that gives religious people tools to become better stewards of Creation. Rev. Butterfield holds a Master of Divinity degree from Meadville Lombard Theological School, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, and a Bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Illinois. She is an ordained Unitarian Universalist community minister, enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Chicago Theological Seminary.
Cost: $300 for the six-week course
Two CEU credits are available upon completion.
Tuition is payable to Union Church by Oct. 1st, 2007.
To register, please contact Rev. Julie Ruth Harley (630) 323.4303 ext. 14. |

Young and
old, male and female, weak and strong, find in T'ai-chi a wonderful source
of relaxation and well-being. In fact, the purpose of T'ai-chi to be nothing
less than rejuvenation and the prolongation of life. Its name, derived
from a concept of Chinese philosophy meaning "supreme ultimate,"
expresses the belief that T'ai-chi represents the highest development
of an essential physical and psychological principle.

Spiritual Health Club
Meets as scheduled through-out the year
Just as the physical body requires streching and exercise, so does our spiritual selves. This group gathers to explore, strengthen and strech our spiritual side. Through experiential exercises, discussion, presentations, and quiet reflection we learn to sense, interact and call upon God's presence in our lives. This class employs the tried and true methods of the Church's rich tradition; Ignatian Exercises, Teresa's poetry and visions, Eckharts mind-heart connections, Merton's contemplative self, as well as many new and exciting tools.
The
class is convened for special events (either an evening, a single day or a weekend) and facilitated by Rev. Dr. Thom Parrott-Sheffer; the Minister for Christian Formation and Mission and a member of Spiritual Directors International. |

What is Systemic Dynamics and
Constellation Coaching? |
How it works: |
Systemic Dynamics Coaching is a form of learning, …a learning that by-passes our conscious, institutionalized brain. It is not a form of therapy. Instead it encourages us to rely on our other faculties, our intuition or unconscious mind, and our faith, for information and guidance.
This workshop is based on the work of Bert Hellinger, a Psychotherapist and former priest, whose philosophy is that there is a vast inter-connectedness of people in organizations and their families. This connection works in such a way that may not always be visible. It acts like a silent and sometimes not so silent network which may prevent a person from achieving his/her purpose. http://www.hellinger.com/international/english/about_bert_hellinger.shtml
Often hidden dynamics and loyalties form a climate, or culture, in which we are born, grow, work and live. Such hidden dynamics and loyalties can sometimes prevent us from feeling joy and peace and fulfilling our higher purpose. It‘s just the way things are. |
Systemic Coaching depicts the relationships between people, concepts, family or work structures, policies and practices in a very simple way. People are chosen to represent the key people, concepts, or factors that are related to a clearly defined issue. The representatives are placed in the center of the room. Hidden dynamics and loyalties are brought to the surface for all to see. Then, under the guidance of the coach/ facilitator, new, healthy images of the issue start to take shape. The new image provides a blueprint for future movement and growth in a healthy and enhancing way. The effects of this process can be profound and life altering for everyone in your relationships. Even those who did not participate in the Systemic Coaching process will feel the effects in the new climate.
