Welcoming William White

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our new Director of the Chancel Choir, Will White.  Will was introduced to the congregation on Sunday, August 12, when he conducted the summer “shirt sleeve” choir.

Most recently Will left the position of assistant music director at Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago.  Previously he served as interim music director at the Presbyterian Church of Barrington.  He is a graduate of the University of Chicago, and will continue as music director of the University of Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Hyde Park Youth Symphony.  He lives in Hyde Park.

In Will’s letter of application for the position of Director of the Chancel Choir at Union Church, he stated, “My overarching goal as a church musician is to integrate the music ministry into the church community at large.  As a choir director, my primary responsibility is to ensure that the music enhances the liturgy and engages with the chosen texts.  I strive to present choral performances with clear and simple diction, and genuine musical feeling – all as a means of theological communication.”
