Rev. Dr. Thom Parrott-Sheffer:
Associate Minister

On June 1, 2004, Thom Parrott-Sheffer began as the Minister for Christian Formation and Mission, bringing 24 years of ministry in Chicago, Illinois; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Oakland, California. Since that time his title has changed to simply Associate Minister; supporting the full range of Pastoral ministry at the church, with a focus on mission, social justice, membership and worship.
Thom received his BS in Philosophy from the University of Illinois, his MDiv from McCormick Seminary (Presbyterian) in Chicago, and his doctorate from The Church Divinity School (Episcopal) in Berkeley, California. He has memberships in the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality, the American Academy of Religion and Spiritual Directors International. Thom is also involved with the Illinois Masonic Order, the Scottish Rite, Equality Illinois and PFLAG.
Thom believes that the church is first and foremost a place of invitation to discipleship. It is where the ideas of belief become the actions of faith—where the rubber hits the road, so to speak. It is a place where all people can find a safe place to explore their relationship with God, deepen that relationship, and learn how to fully express that relationship.
Thom lives near the church, in Burr Ridge, with his wife Joan—enjoying being empty-nesters. Their two sons both live in Chicago. In his off-hours Thom enjoys kayaking, geocaching, watching movies (both old and new) and spending time with his grandchildren.
