Rev. Tanya Sadagopan shares a passion for Christian Education for adults and children. She believes in a relevant and practical faith where the scriptures jump off the pages and into the stories of our lives. Some of our most challenging questions of the day—sustainable economies, healthy relationships, and appreciating ethnic diversity are all found at the heart of the teachings of Jesus. We all seek meaning, connection, and desire a faith that can sustain us during the celebrations and losses of our lives. She believes that this is what it means to dwell in a church community—honoring our diversity while we unite together in the bonds of Christian love.
Pastor Tanya was ordained in 2007 in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and comes to Union Church after serving a transforming congregation in the Chicago area. She entered into the ministry after 9/11, feeling the call to share the gift of faith and transformation with others. She attended Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis obtaining her Masters of Divinity degree. Additionally, Pastor Tanya holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Sociology from Texas Christian University and The Ohio State University where she focused on Social Movements and Religion. Tanya has taught Sociology at the university level and worked in the non-profit sector for ending world hunger when she met her husband Sriram.
She understands the joys and struggles that kids and families face—her love for children shines through in everything she does. Supporting healthy relationships is important to Pastor Tanya. She and Sriram have coached couples on having fulfilling relationships for over 10 years and continue to work to keep their marriage of 13 years alive and well. Tanya loves the ocean and gardening, and has traveled to India many times where her husband’s family lives. She loves to cook and eat international vegetarian cuisine and has been known to teach Indian cooking classes. They have two children Nishanth and Nandini, two cats and their dog Scamper to keep them busy on the weekends. |
